Falling in Love
(Baby in Red Chair, circa 1810-1830,
unknown artist, possibly from Pennsylvania)
In the final analysis, as we come to the end of our poems about love this month of June, we see that love is all about what you choose to put at the center of your life.
FALLING IN LOVE
Nothing is more practical than
finding God, that is, than
falling in love
in a quite absolute, final way.
What you are in love with,
what seizes your imagination,
will affect everything.
It will decide
what will get you out of bed
in the morning,
what you do with your evenings,
how you spend your weekends,
what you read, who you know,
what breaks your heart,
and what amazes you with
joy and gratitude.
Fall in love, stay in love,
and it will decide everything.
~ Attributed to Pedro Arrupe, S.J. (1907-1991), a Basque priest who served as a missionary in Japan from 1938 to 1965; he was living in the outskirts of the city when the bomb fell on Hiroshima, and led a team to take care of the sick and the dying
