(
Provincetown by Childe Hassam, 1859-1935,
American Impressionist painter)

where gardens waft and cats sit quietly
on doorsteps, like Chinese philosophers.
~ Adam Zagajewski, born 1945, Polish poet who now teaches in the U.S.
