  1. Hi there. Unfortunately you've continued to pass along an unfortunate myth about William Carlos Williams inability to "serve" as poet laureate. It was not due to strokes but the way in which the Library itself succumbed to the right-wing witch hunt of the period. This history is VERY well documented and serves as one of the Library of Congress's sadder chapters.
