Nature Assigns the Sun
(Blue Star by Joan Miró, 1893-1983,
Spanish painter, ceramist, and sculptor)
“A wish for friendship may arise quickly,” says Aristotle in Nicomachean Ethics, “but friendship does not.”
You cannot plan or design a friendship.
Nature assigns the Sun —
That — is Astronomy —
Nature cannot enact a Friend —
That — is Astrology
~ Emily Dickinson (1830-1886), American poet

A poem from my star of a sister and a star to many in her orbit.
ReplyDeleteTHE GREAT AHA
I am the remnant / of an ancient sun,/ a spilled star.
Now I feel the dust / of other ancient orbs / drift toward me.
I am the daughter / of an ancient lake / pulled to shore/ by unknowing net.
Left to dream in waves.
One wave returns,/ cup in hand.
I am the branch / of an ancient hawk/ blinded by greed/ and tied to a stake / of fear.
Now glims of light / flick dead skin/away.
I begin to comprehend.
