Winter Solitude - A Haiku

(Trees in Winter, woodcut by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff,
1884-1976, German Expressionist artist)

Winter solitude —
in a world of one color
the sound of wind.

~ Matsuo Bashō (1644-1694), Japanese poet

I look out my window this morning and see, in life, the haiku in 3 dimension. The contrast between the bark of the trees and the white snow create an air of serenity and peace. Too often I let these marvels of the Almighty pass me by like the wind that whistles through the branches.

Thanks for the winter art. Are we not surrounded by beauty, even when it is austere?
